Literature Text
I used to be lonely,
So hurt and so scared,
But now I have friends
Who show me they care.
I used to have fears
That kept me from trying,
But they're drifting away
And I'm no longer crying.
I used to have scars
Carved into my heart,
But now they are fading;
I'll make a new start.
I used to have holes
That nothing could fill,
But it's been filled with hope
Which resides there still.
So hurt and so scared,
But now I have friends
Who show me they care.
I used to have fears
That kept me from trying,
But they're drifting away
And I'm no longer crying.
I used to have scars
Carved into my heart,
But now they are fading;
I'll make a new start.
I used to have holes
That nothing could fill,
But it's been filled with hope
Which resides there still.

What I feel like now
What I used to feel like:
What I used to feel like:
Used To - Sad I used to have friends
I thought I could trust,
But they faded away
And left nothing but dust.
I used to have dreams
That I treated with care,
But they slipped through my fingers
And I caught nothing but air.
I used to be strong
With a shield nothing could harm,
But now I am weak
For I've been disarmed.
I used to be happy
Successful and smart,
How is it then
That it all fell apart?

I've been studying Romantic Poetry in school, and these two poems immediately made me think of William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience. But this is interesting, because it seems reversed. Used To-Happy plays the role of experience here.
They're good, evocative poems, but I think that they could really use more imagery.
